Theory Test

This test consist of 2 parts.

50 multiple-choice questions – you must answer 43 correctly to pass.

Hazard perception test – this follows part one and involves a series of 14 video clips.

Each clip has at least 1 developing hazard. However, 1 clip has 2!

You respond by clicking a mouse button when each hazard is spotted. The earlier you click the mouse, the more points you will score, up to a maximum of 5 per clip.

This will include a 20 minute section called Independent Driving. During this phase of the test you will follow directions given by a Sat-Nav provided by the Examiner. In 1 in 5 of tests, this phase will be conducted with you following signs and road markings. In both cases you must negotiate all situations correctly and safely.

You will also be required to perform 1 manoeuvre from the following:-

1. Parallel Park on the road

2. Reverse Bay park in the Test Centre car park

3. Forward Bay park in a Car Park during the drive

4. Park on the right hand side of the road, 2 car length reverse and move off

Approximately 1 in 3 tests include the Emergency Stop – this is in addition to the manoeuvre.

An eyesight test is carried out at the beginning of the test and a “Tell Me” question will be asked.

Whilst driving, a “Show Me” question will be asked
